Give a new life to your old yoga mat

It’s time for a yoga mat renewal and you don’t know what to do with your old one? Fortunately, you can make a lot of things with it, even help others! Take a look to all the options you have before thinking of throwing it in the garbage. After all the beautiful moments you had together, it certainly deserves a second chance.

1. Give it to charity

Many people would be glad to have your old yoga mat. It can help in ways you wouldn't have expected!

  • Bent on Learning (USA) : bentonlearning.org
  • Yoga Foster (USA) : yogafoster.org
  • Donate it to homeless shelters as sleeping pads.
  • Drop off your old mat at an animal rescue shelter. Most of these places need soft, durable mats, rugs, towels, & blankets to line crates.

2. Reuse it

Your yoga mat can be used in many ways. Here are some ideas of what you can do with it.

  • Use it as a kneeling pad when you’re working in the garden.
  • Cut it up into new mouse pads.
  • Use as a ground cloth for camping — under your tent or under your sleeping bag.
  • Use as a picnic blanket.
  • Put it under your pets food bowls to prevent mess on the floor.
  • Put it under your dish rack to avoid scratching your countertop.
  • Give it to your pets, they will love to lie down on your old yoga mat.

3. Recycle it

Don't throw it to the garbage! Chances are you can recycle your old yoga mat.

If your mat is made with thermoplastic elastomer (TPE), it is recyclable, which means your old mat can be reincarnated.

  • Look at the label to know if your mat is made of TPE.
