6 reasons why you should travel during the fall

Call me crazy, but now that summer’s over, I just want to travel! For travellers, summer ending is a good thing because fall brings new opportunities…and discounts! If you leave at the right time, you’ll even get beautiful weather. I’ve listed 6 reasons why you should consider traveling during this beautiful, colourful season!

1 – Discounts!

Fall is the BEST time to travel if you are on a budget. It’s the perfect “in-between” season, between the summer and holiday traveling. Check out the prices for plane tickets, and you will be pleasantly surprised. If you aren’t afraid of Hurricane season, the Caribbean hotels and resorts provide major discounts to entice travellers. Try it!

2 – Beautiful Scenery

One of my favourite things about fall is the scenery. You may not be one of the lucky people who get a full fall season with reds and oranges in the trees. A lovers retreat at a small bed & breakfast near a forest is a total dream! You can visit New England, Canada, Colorado and so many other places with beautiful scenery.

3 – Hiking

Being a sporty type, this type of traveling totally fulfils me! This is a great time to go hiking, because it’s not too hot, not too cold; it’s just perfect. You can find a small motel or B&B near a mountain to make sure you don’t sleep out in the cold, but you can spend the whole day breathing fresh air.

4 – Enjoy Indoor Activities

Traveling in the summer can mean lots of beach-bumming, partying outdoors and soaking up the sun. That’s great, but sometimes you want your trip to be a bit more intellectually fulfilling. Visiting museums, pubs and historical spots is great in the fall because you won’t be so tempted to crave the beach. Try Boston, New York City or Toronto.

5 – Fewer tourists

If you’re a backpacker like me, mixing with locals is how you like your traveling. Even when I’m a tourist myself, I don’t like to be surrounded with other tourists because it takes away from the experience and I always want an authentic experience. No matter where you travel, traffic is less and crowds are much smaller in the fall. I went to Italy in October, for instance and it was PERFECT!!

6 – Fall festivals

All the fun festivals are in the summer, right? WRONG! Oktoberfest wears its name for a reason; it’s in October! For the party goest, Germany’s famous festival is big in music and all sorts of beer. For families, I recommend Salem in Massachusetts for its very famous Halloween festivities; a unique experience for the adults, and a blast for the little ones.

If this doesn’t give you enough reasons to travel during this beautiful time of year, I don’t know what will! Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to start packing…I think it’s time to go somewhere new!
